How to Find the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer

by Mia Mar 16,2025

Reaching max level in Rune Slayer often leads adventurers to the formidable Hill Troll. This hulking foe isn't just a great source of experience points; it's also a prime location to farm valuable early endgame loot. But finding this behemoth requires a bit of know-how. This guide reveals exactly how to locate the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer.

Hill Troll Location in Rune Slayer

The Hill Troll resides within a hidden cave nestled in the mountainside of Bahlgar. While several paths lead there, the easiest begins at the Lakeshire elevator. Descend to Bahlgar, following the usual route to the Beastmen. However, instead of engaging the Beastmen, hug the mountain's wall, circling around past two platinum deposits. Look closely at the mountain's side—you'll spot the Troll cave entrance. To enter, you'll need to jump into the opening (mounting up is recommended). It might seem tricky initially, but after your first visit, returning will be a breeze. See for yourself in our GIF (we even joined a player group battling the Troll!).

Hill Troll – Strategy, Loot, and Quest

Despite its intimidating appearance, the Hill Troll is surprisingly manageable, especially considering you'll likely face it repeatedly.

First and foremost, avoid solo encounters. While its attacks are predictable and dodgeable, teaming up (even with just one other player) is highly recommended. Finding a group shouldn't be difficult, as many players farm the Troll. Conveniently, it respawns every 90 seconds after defeat.

The Hill Troll attacks with a massive pillar. Its attacks are slow but powerful, easily parried and blocked. The exception is when it raises the pillar overhead with both hands—this attack stuns, so run! Deal enough damage, and you can stagger the Troll. Warrior class players will find their Counter attack particularly effective at stunning it.

While rare equipment drops are possible, don't count on it. Instead, focus on farming Troll Hides and Troll Heads. Troll Hides are crucial for crafting decent endgame equipment, providing a suitable upgrade before tackling tougher bosses like the Mother Spider.

The Troll Head is a quest item for the repeatable Hodor Quest. Hourly, you can trade a Troll Head to Hodor (located near the cave) for a chance at random loot, including potentially powerful gear. If you're farming the Troll, definitely participate in this quest.

Can You Tame the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer?

No, the Hill Troll is untamable, even for Beast Tamer Archers. While not a raid boss, its size and nature make it impractical as a pet. Even escaping the cave might be a challenge for such a massive creature. Stick to your trusty Mud Crab if you're a Beast Tamer Archer.

That's it! Enjoy your (repeated) battles with the Hill Troll, and may your loot be plentiful. Need more endgame assistance? Check out our Essential Rune Slayer Endgame Tips.
