Following its release late last year, the Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster has achieved significant sales success, recently surpassing 200,000 units sold. This accomplishment demonstrates strong player demand, despite initial concerns surrounding technical issues and perceived censorship. The game's popularity showcases a clear market for remasters of cult classic action titles.

Developed by Dragami Games (the original was by Grasshopper Manufacture), the RePOP version features quality-of-life improvements and a substantial visual upgrade. The game retains its core gameplay: a vibrant, over-the-top action-hack-and-slash experience where players wield a chainsaw as Juliet Starling, a cheerleader battling a zombie horde. This gameplay, reminiscent of titles like Bayonetta, remains a key draw for fans.

This sales milestone, announced by Dragami Games on social media, encompasses sales across all current and last-gen consoles, as well as PC. The achievement is particularly noteworthy given the original Lollipop Chainsaw, released in 2012, sold over one million units on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The original game's success was partly attributed to the unique collaboration between Goichi Suda (Grasshopper Manufacture) and James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), who contributed to the game's narrative.

While there's currently no confirmation of future DLC or a potential sequel, the positive sales figures for Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP are encouraging for the remastering of other niche titles. This success follows the recent release of another Grasshopper Manufacture title, Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, which also brought a cult classic to modern platforms. The success of these remasters suggests a growing appetite for revisiting beloved, albeit sometimes flawed, games from previous generations.
