Moonstone Deck: Top Strategy for Marvel SNAP

by Jacob Apr 24,2025

Quick Links

Moonstone, the latest addition to Marvel Snap, is an exciting Ongoing card that can copy the text of your other 1-, 2-, and 3-Cost Ongoing cards in her lane. Think of her as an enhanced Mystique. However, crafting a powerful deck around this formidable yet delicate card is challenging, earning her the moniker "the Glass Cannon of Marvel SNAP."

After extensive testing, I've pinpointed the two most effective decks for Moonstone: the Patriot and Tribunal setups. This guide will help you build and optimize these decks. If you're unsure about investing in Moonstone, a brief review at the end will assist in your decision.

Moonstone (4–6)

Ongoing: Has the Ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-Cost cards here.

Series: Five (Ultra Rare)

Season: Dark Avengers

Release: January 15, 2025

The Best Deck for Moonstone

Moonstone shines best when she supports other cards rather than being the main focus. A reliable setup involves using Moonstone in a Patriot-Ultron deck, where she copies one or two key Ongoing effects without being the sole win condition.

To create a Moonstone deck with Patriot and Ultron, include these cards: Brood, Mystique, Dazzler, Mockingbird, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Squirrel Girl, Blue Marvel, and Mister Sinister.

Moonstone Deck Synergies

  • Prepare the board with Brood, Sinister, or Squirrel Girl to set up buffs.
  • Play Patriot, Mystique, and Moonstone in one lane, ideally in that order.
  • In the final round, deploy Ultron to fill all locations and maximize buffs.
  • Use Iron Man, Blue Marvel, and Mockingbird as backup to cover any power deficits in one or two lanes.

An Alternative Deck for Moonstone

For an exhilarating gameplay experience, pair Moonstone with Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. This setup prioritizes fun over consistency, positioning Moonstone as a primary win condition alongside these cards: Onslaught, Living Tribunal, Mystique, Magik, Psylocke, Sera, Iron Man, Ravonna Renslayer, Captain America, Howard the Duck, and Iron Lad.

Here’s the optimal strategy:

  1. Use Psylocke to play Moonstone early.
  2. Deploy Onslaught, Mystique, and Iron Man into her lane.
  3. In the final round, distribute Power across all lanes with The Living Tribunal.

In this setup, Psylocke and Sera help play key cards earlier, while Magik extends the match, allowing for Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. Captain America and Iron Lad serve as backups if you don't draw your essential cards on time.

Many anticipated the Moonstone-Onslaught-Tribunal combo to dominate the metagame post-release, with some seeing it as her perfect fit. However, few foresaw her vulnerability to Super Skrull.

How to Counter Moonstone

Moonstone's fragility makes her an easy target for Super Skrull, a card many players have added to their decks to counter her. Enchantress, Rogue, and Echo also effectively neutralize Moonstone, making her quite vulnerable.

The main weakness of Moonstone is that she only copies abilities from cards in her lane. Unless you shield her with cards like Invisible Woman, opponents can easily shut down her lane using Enchantress, Echo, or Rogue. Alternatively, they might play Super Skrull in another lane to dismantle your strategy.

Is Moonstone Worth It?

Moonstone is worth your Spotlight Keys for several reasons: 1) Her ability will grow more valuable as more Ongoing cards that synergize with her are introduced; 2) She comes in a Spotlight Cache with two other Series Five cards, minimizing the risk of unsuccessful pulls; and 3) She evokes nostalgia, appealing to fans who relish pulling off complex combos that dramatically boost the board. If you miss the thrill of such gameplay, Moonstone is definitely a card to consider acquiring.
