Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games

by Logan May 02,2025

Nintendo has revealed the pricing for upgrading two more games from their original Nintendo Switch versions to the enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. These upgrades come with a hefty price tag, significantly higher than previous upgrades.

Upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each. However, NintendoLife has noted that the upgrades for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at more than double that amount each.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service through the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Breath of the Wild on the Switch can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content in the Star-Crossed World. Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition includes Jamboree TV, a new suite of content utilizing the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the Switch 2 USB-C camera (sold separately). This edition also features upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functions.

While U.S. prices are not yet available on the American Nintendo eShop—potentially due to uncertainties surrounding President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, more than twice the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom.

The Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade is priced the same, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99. This higher upgrade cost might be linked to the $80 price tag for both Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, which are $20 more expensive than their original Switch counterparts at $59.99 each.

Here's a look at the U.S. prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games without upgrades:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99

It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no additional cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. Unfortunately, no such offer exists for those wishing to upgrade Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders opened on April 24, priced at $449.99, and sold out quickly due to high demand. Nintendo has warned U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that delivery on the release date is not guaranteed.
