Originally launched as a free service to rival Xbox Live in 2010, PlayStation Plus has evolved significantly since its inception. The current version of PlayStation Plus is a subscription-based service for PS5 and PS4 users that is required for online play, and it also includes additional tiers that offer benefits such as a catalog of downloadable games, cloud streaming, and more.
While Sony used to provide free trials for new users to its online service, **PlayStation Plus does not currently offer any free trials.**
Although PlayStation Plus doesn't offer free trials to everyone, certain countries or regions may occasionally have access to limited-time free trials, as indicated on Sony's website. Unfortunately, Sony does not specify who these free trials are for or when they are available, so staying vigilant is key. PlayStation also hosts free multiplayer events from time to time, allowing players to enjoy multiplayer without a PS Plus subscription, though these events are unpredictable.
PlayStation occasionally offers deals on PlayStation Plus subscriptions, but these are often **only available for new or expired members**. It would be great if Sony could extend these benefits to all subscribers!
While there isn't a direct replacement for PS Plus, which is necessary for online play on PS5 and PS4, there are alternatives with free (or nearly free) trials that provide a catalog of games to stream. However, these alternatives typically require a different console, a PC, or a mobile device.

Microsoft's PC Game Pass offers a 14-day trial for $1, providing access to hundreds of games, including Xbox Game Studios titles on day one, along with an EA Play subscription and Riot Games benefits.

Nintendo Switch Online offers a 7-day free trial, giving you access to dozens of NES, SNES, and Game Boy games, the Nintendo Music app, discount game vouchers, retro game controllers, and limited-time games.

Amazon Luna+ provides a 7-day free trial, offering access to a catalog of over 100 games playable up to 1080p/60fps on PC, Mac, and mobile devices.

Apple Arcade offers a 1-month free trial, giving access to a growing library of over 200 ad-free games available across all Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro). You can also share your subscription with up to five family members.
Other services like Ubisoft+ and EA Play offer publisher-specific catalogs of games to stream, but they don't currently provide any free trials.
