After the recent acquisition of Pokémon Go developer Niantic by Scopely, the team behind Monopoly Go, fans have expressed concerns ranging from increased advertisements to data privacy issues. However, a reassuring interview with Michael Steranka, a product director at Pokémon Go, published on Polygon, aims to alleviate these worries.
In the interview, Steranka praises Scopely and emphasizes that both companies share similar values. He confidently asserts that Scopely is unlikely to introduce intrusive ads into Pokémon Go. For those concerned about privacy, Steranka firmly states that Niantic will not share or sell player data to third parties. He concludes by assuring fans that the transition to working under Scopely will have minimal impact on the Niantic team.
If it ain't broke...While it's natural to anticipate some corporate influence, I believe Scopely will not heavily interfere with Pokémon Go's operations. The game has been, and continues to be, highly successful. From a business perspective, the focus might shift more towards Niantic's new AR development team.
Steranka also highlighted the close involvement of The Pokémon Company in decision-making processes for Pokémon Go. This implies that any actions not aligned with The Pokémon Company's standards would be off the table both now and in the future.
