Will Wright's New AI Life Sim, Proxi: A Deep Dive into Interactive Memories
The mastermind behind The Sims, Will Wright, recently offered a glimpse into his ambitious new project, Proxi, an AI-powered life simulation game centered around personal memories. Developed by Gallium Studio, the game, initially announced in 2018, is finally taking shape, as revealed in a recent Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D.
This livestream, part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, showcased Proxi's unique approach to gameplay. The game encourages players to input their real-life memories as text, which are then transformed into animated scenes within the game. These scenes are customizable, allowing players to refine the representation of their memories using in-game assets.
Each memory, termed a "mem," enhances the game's AI, populating the player's "mind world"—a navigable 3D environment—with personalized representations of friends and family (Proxies). These memories are arranged on a timeline, creating a dynamic and interconnected narrative. Remarkably, Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds like Minecraft and Roblox.
Wright emphasized Proxi's focus on creating a deeply personal experience. He highlighted the game's aim to forge "magical connections with memories and bring them to life," explaining his design philosophy: "No game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." He jokingly added, "The more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's official website, with platform announcements forthcoming.
