A recent report from industry insider NateTheHate suggests a significant expansion of Microsoft's multi-platform strategy. The report claims that Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 are in development for both the PlayStation 5 and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, with potential releases slated for 2025.
Microsoft's initiative to bring first-party titles to other consoles began in February 2024, with games like Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves leading the charge. As Dusk Falls, while not directly developed by a Microsoft subsidiary, also joined the multi-platform lineup after its initial Xbox exclusivity. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launched on non-Xbox platforms in October 2024, followed by Indiana Jones and the Great Circle planned for a PS5 release in Spring 2025.
NateTheHate's report indicates that Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a compilation of six Halo games, is expected to arrive on PS5 and Switch 2 in 2025. This is further supported by fellow insider Jez Corden, who tweeted that "way more" Xbox games will be making the jump to PS5 and Switch 2 in 2025, suggesting an end to the era of exclusive Xbox titles.
The report also points to Microsoft Flight Simulator, likely referring to the recently released MFS 2024, as another candidate for a multi-platform release on PS5 and Switch 2 sometime in 2025.
The future of Call of Duty on Nintendo platforms remains uncertain, although a ten-year agreement between Microsoft and Nintendo ensures its eventual arrival. The delay may be attributed to the anticipated release of the more powerful Switch 2, better equipped to handle the game's graphical demands. The overall trend strongly suggests a significant shift in Microsoft's gaming strategy, embracing broader accessibility for its major franchises.
