South Park Creators Hire Negotiator Amid $3B Deal Dispute

by Lily Mar 16,2026

The highly anticipated Season 27 premiere of South Park faces potential delays as creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone clash with Paramount Global and prospective owner Skydance Media over a monumental $3 billion contract negotiation.

Earlier this month, Parker and Stone publicly criticized Paramount's decision to postpone Season 27's debut by two weeks through a characteristically blunt social media post that perfectly captured the show's signature tone.

"This corporate merger has become a complete disaster and it's compromising South Park's production," the duo stated. "We're actively working on new episodes at the studio and hope fans will eventually get to see them."

The show's previous season premiered in March 2023 with six episodes, followed by three specials released between October 2023 and March 2024.

According to The Hollywood Reporter's investigative piece, the current conflict centers on a proposed decade-long, $3 billion contract that would significantly surpass the value of the existing agreement set to expire in 2027.

The situation may escalate legally, with Parker and Stone retaining Bryan Freedman, a high-profile attorney recognized for his aggressive negotiation tactics. Potential litigation could accuse Skydance of disrupting contractual negotiations.

Skydance maintains it possesses contract approval authority (pending regulatory clearance for its Paramount merger), expressing concerns that the extended duration of the proposed deal would limit operational flexibility.

While Season 27 remains scheduled for July 23, its launch appears uncertain. The expiration of streaming agreements on June 30 prompted Warner Bros. Discovery to extend its domestic HBO Max arrangement, though Paramount+ recently removed South Park from its international platforms.
