Squid Game: Season 2 Updates Unleash New Characters, Events

by Peyton Feb 11,2025

Squid Game: Unleashed is gearing up for a major content drop to coincide with the release of season two of the hit Netflix show. Get ready for new characters, a fresh map, and exciting challenges! Plus, exclusive rewards await those who tune in to the new episodes.

Netflix's surprising decision to offer Squid Game: Unleashed free to all players, subscribers and non-subscribers alike, before the holidays, has proven to be a smart move. Now, with the addition of season two-themed content and rewards for watching, they're cleverly incentivizing viewership and player engagement.

What's in store for existing players? Starting January 3rd, a new map inspired by the Mingle mini-game from Squid Game season two will be added. Three new playable characters – Geum-Ja, Yong-Sik, and rapper Thanos – will also debut throughout January.

Geum-Ja and Thanos will each have special in-game events running on January 3rd and 9th respectively, allowing players to unlock them. And the best part? Watching episodes of Squid Game season two unlocks in-game Cash and Wild Tokens. Watching up to seven episodes even unlocks the exclusive Binni Binge-Watcher outfit!

Here's the January content schedule for Squid Game: Unleashed:

  • January 3rd: Launch of the new Mingle map and Geum-Ja character. The Dalgona Mash Up Collection Event begins, challenging players to complete Mingle-inspired mini-games and collect Dalgona tins (event runs until January 9th).
  • January 9th: Thanos joins the game, accompanied by his Thanos’ Red Light Challenge recruitment event. Players earn this character by eliminating opponents using knives (event runs until January 14th).
  • January 16th: Yong-Sik arrives as the final new character in this update.

Squid Game: Unleashed is proving to be a significant venture for Netflix in the gaming world. The free-to-play model was a bold move, but rewarding subscribers and encouraging them to watch the show through in-game incentives is a particularly shrewd strategy, creating a synergistic relationship between the game and the show itself.
