In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you'll primarily take on the role of the Wanderer, who is on a mission to restore peace across the land. Throughout your journey, you'll be faced with numerous choices in the main storyline, and regardless of your decisions, you'll often be accompanied by powerful companions in battle.
These companions will loyally follow you across the battlefield, but there are moments when you can step into their shoes. Given their strength and unique abilities, playing as your companions can be significantly more effective than playing as the Wanderer, even with his upgrades. Here’s how you can make the switch.
To switch to your companion, you need to be in a battle where one is present with you. Before the fight, during the war council, you'll see an option to select your companion. While you can choose to go into battle alone, you won't be able to switch to a companion mid-fight if you do so. Once the battle starts, keep an eye on the bottom right of your screen; you'll see your companion's health bar just above your own.
Below their health bar, there's a blue bar similar to your Musou bar. This bar fills up as you engage in combat through various actions such as:
Every combat action contributes to filling this bar, albeit at a slower pace.
When your companion's blue bar is fully charged, a "Change Character" button will appear next to it. To switch, simply press and hold this button for about a second. On Xbox, use the View Button; on PC, it's the C key; and on PlayStation, press the Touchpad.
It's best to switch characters during intense battles, as companions are exceptionally powerful. You'll control them for roughly a minute, indicated by the blue bar that starts to drain after you switch. Your new character comes equipped with full Bravery and an array of powerful combat arts, making them incredibly effective on the battlefield.
Upon switching, your new character will launch a significant attack, so aim at an enemy for maximum impact. Your companion will also have their own Musou and health bars, both fully charged, allowing you to unleash a devastating special attack on your foes.
