What's next for Boba Fett? The legendary Star Wars character's last appearance was at the conclusion of his own series, The Book of Boba Fett, back in February 2022. While the Disney+ spinoff received mixed reactions, with some fans believing it softened the iconic villain's edge too much, this surely can't be the end for the bounty hunter, can it?
More than three years later, the prospect of The Book of Boba Fett Season 2 feels distant. Lucasfilm has not hinted at the show's return, making next year's The Mandalorian & Grogu movie the most likely opportunity for a live-action comeback. What about The Mandalorian Season 4? Lucasfilm hasn't confirmed anything, but if a new season does happen, Boba Fett might make an appearance there.
In reality, the future of both Boba Fett and the actor who portrays him, Temuera Morrison, remains unclear. Based on Morrison's own recent comments, there's little reason to think otherwise.
In a Collider interview promoting his new film, Ka Whawhai Tonu (In The Fire of War), the 64-year-old New Zealander expressed feeling "sad" about not returning to the role since The Book of Boba Fett concluded.
"Where is The Book of Boba Fett Season 2? Where the hell is it? I know they're making Ahsoka Season 2. I keep asking, 'So, where's my Season 2?'"
As Collider reported, Morrison mentioned he actually pitched Lucasfilm on the idea of Boba Fett appearing in Ahsoka Season 2 ("can I play Rex and take his helmet off, please?"), noting that he portrays not only Boba Fett but all the character's clone variants.
He also ran into Star Wars executives Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau recently and reminded them Boba Fett is still around. Apparently, "they just said, 'Well, well...' They didn't want to give anything away, let's put it that way. There were a few whispers—they were careful not to say much—and then they left it there."
This interaction left Morrison feeling like "I've been preserved for later, and I'll be even better then." He likened the feeling to visiting his grandmother's house and seeing "that jar of preserved peaches up on the shelf."

"That's what I think," he continued. "I'm one of those peaches, up on that shelf. I've been preserved for a later date, and I'll be tastier when the time comes."
Morrison might be playing coy, fully aware he's set to return to Star Wars in some capacity. After all, Rosario Dawson had no idea Mark Hamill was returning as Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian until he arrived on set. Lucasfilm is known for keeping its plans tightly under wraps.
However, it genuinely sounds like no projects are currently in development for Boba Fett, and last year Morrison offered a possible explanation. During the "From Clone Troopers to Bounty Hunters" panel at Fan Expo Chicago, he cited the lukewarm reception to The Book of Boba Fett as the reason the once-beloved character isn't slated to return in Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu. He added that Disney, which owns Star Wars, had not asked him to appear in the upcoming film or a second season of his own show.
The series, which followed Boba Fett's escape from the Sarlacc Pit and essentially served as a mini-season of The Mandalorian, ranks among the least favorably received Star Wars shows. "It seems this show's reception did affect the character's future in the franchise," Morrison remarked at the time. That was in August 2024. Has anything changed in the year since? It's uncertain.
Morrison first played Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and later returned as Jango's son and genetic clone, Boba Fett. He has made his eagerness to rejoin the Star Wars universe clear, expressing a desire for a significant role in The Mandalorian, just as The Mandalorian featured prominently in his own series.
