Top Decks Unveiled: Marvel Snap

Marvel Snap's roster of animal companions has been rather limited—Cosmo, Groose, Zabu, Hit Monkey, and that's pretty much it. However, the Brave New World season introduces a new feathered friend: Redwing, Falcon's pet.

Redwing's Mechanics in Marvel Snap

Redwing is a 3-cost, 4-power card with a unique ability: The first time it moves, a card from your hand is added to its previous location.

Several factors limit Redwing's effectiveness:

  • Single-Use Ability: The ability triggers only once, regardless of attempts to reuse it via cards like Symbiote Spider-Man or by returning it to your hand.
  • Targeting Challenges: Precisely targeting the card moved with Redwing proves difficult. Move decks often contain low-power cards (like Iron Fist) you'd rather avoid, while Scream decks typically manipulate opponent's cards rather than your own.

Despite these limitations, inexpensive move cards like Madame Web or Cloak (accessible to lower Collection Level players) can be used to activate Redwing. This offers the potential for surprising victories by strategically deploying powerful cards like Galactus early or drawing a high-value card like The Infinaut.

Optimal Redwing Decks (Day One)

Ares and Surtur dominated the previous season, and a new Scream-based deck incorporating Aero and Heimdall continues this strategy. Redwing surprisingly integrates well, despite the preference for playing Surtur on turn 3 in almost all scenarios. This deck includes:

  • Hydra Bob, Scream, Kraven, Captain America, Redwing, Polaris, Surtur, Ares, Cull Obsidian, Aero, Heimdall, Magneto

This deck is expensive, featuring several Series 5 cards (Hydra Bob, Scream, Redwing, Surtur, Ares, Cull Obsidian). Hydra Bob can be substituted with a 1-cost card like Rocket Raccoon or Iceman, but the other Series 5 cards are crucial. The strategy revolves around deploying Surtur on turn 3, followed by high-power cards to boost Surtur's power, with Scream providing an alternative win condition by stealing power. Polaris, Aero, and Magneto offer card manipulation, while Redwing can be moved into Heimdall to enhance Surtur and draw a high-power card.

Another potential deck incorporating Redwing uses Madame Web, as the Dagger nerf has diminished the viability of move-focused decks. Madame Web's Ongoing ability complements Ongoing decks, making Redwing a possible inclusion:

  • Ant-Man, Madame Web, Psylocke, Sam Wilson, Captain America, Luke Cage, Captain America, Redwing, Doom 2099, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum

This deck features two Series 5 cards (Madame Web and Doom 2099). Madame Web isn't essential, but removing her necessitates removing Redwing for another Ongoing card like Mobius M. Mobius. The core strategy centers around Doom 2099 to distribute power across locations. Madame Web aids this by repositioning Doom 2099 bots, and provides an additional means to move Sam Wilson's shield. Redwing's activation is limited to being moved into Madame Web. The final turn typically involves playing Doctor Doom or Spectrum to either spread power or create a power spike.

Is Redwing Worth Investing In?

Currently, no. Redwing appears underpowered and relies on a weak archetype. Saving resources for future cards is advisable unless Second Dinner significantly buffs Redwing.
