This simple, non-field RPG challenges you to escape a cursed forest.
- Prologue -
You're the village's best hunter. News of a national hunting tournament near the royal capital reaches you, and you journey to compete. After attending the opening ceremony and a night camping, you wake to find the forest eerily deserted. All that remains are the remnants of a large hunter encampment. National guards, responsible for overseeing the tournament, are nowhere to be found. Your attempts to retrace your steps lead you back to the same spot, highlighting the unsettling nature of the cursed woods.
- The Elven Curse -
Aided by a mysterious quarter-elf, you, the hunter, must navigate the cursed forest to escape. Gameplay is remarkably straightforward, utilizing a maximum of three buttons at any given time (excluding the main menu).
- Character Creation -
While character customization is limited, you can reroll your stats repeatedly. Status increase rates upon leveling up are only visible on this screen and cannot be checked in-game. These stats are crucial, and the ability to reroll is a vital return item. Game over occurs when your life force reaches zero and you have less than two "talismans."
- Foria, the Peddler Quarter-Elf -
A young (or perhaps not-so-young) quarter-elf named Foria encounters you in the forest. Despite his childlike appearance, he claims seniority and offers assistance, covertly using the forest's ancient spirits to aid your escape.
- Story and Setting -
The prologue unfolds smoothly like a picture story, while Foria's dialogue maintains a cheerful tone. The game's world is subtly conveyed through concise, evocative language.
- Exploration Mode -
Progress through the forest requires exploring unexplored areas. The success of each exploration attempt is influenced by the "fog depth" of the area and your character's stats. If your life force is depleted, use poison or rare "talismans" as needed, or return to Foria.
- Beast Encounters and Hunter Battles -
Fierce creatures, from wolves to surprisingly aggressive frogs and rabbits, inhabit the forest. Defeating them yields hides for trading with Foria. Unlike typical RPGs, combat is not for leveling up; it's a means of survival. Battles are entirely avoidable (though this requires luck or skillful gameplay). As a hunter, you use a bow and arrow. Maintaining distance allows for attacks without counterattacks, while closing the gap risks a one-sided assault. You can choose to withdraw, or use a "flash" ball (provided by Foria) for guaranteed escape.
- Cloak and Layering System -
Using collected branches, resin, and leather, you can craft a cloak that enhances your abilities. Up to three layers can be worn simultaneously, with ability increases stacking additively. The cloak can also restore vitality, but note that the top layer can be damaged and eventually destroyed. The bow and arrow remain unchanged.
- Game Features -
This game emphasizes strategic thinking, skill, and luck, rewarding players who enjoy thoughtful preparation and resource management. It’s a game about the journey, not just the destination. The game features an autosave system, but the save points are not during every action. It is recommended to close the app in the base menu to ensure your progress is saved.
