IGN has exciting news for fans of the highly anticipated game Hollow Knight: Silksong. The game will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. This opportunity is part of a video game exhibition called Game Worlds, which will not only allow visitors to play the game but also explore its design and artistic direction through various displays.
Developed by Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, Hollow Knight: Silksong has been eagerly awaited by gamers worldwide. It has topped the Steam wishlist chart for years and is one of the most anticipated indie games since its announcement in 2019. Despite a vague release window set for 2025, this museum exhibition marks a significant milestone for the game's journey to release.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their excitement, stating, "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"
As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, which is one of several design elements that will be showcased in the Game Worlds exhibition. This image, provided to IGN with permission, gives fans a glimpse into the intricate design work that has gone into the game.

With Hollow Knight: Silksong set to be playable at ACMI from September 18, fans are hopeful that the game's full release might be imminent, perhaps even as early as August 2025. The game recently made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct, confirming its 2025 release window and showcasing a few seconds of new gameplay. Originally announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with subsequent versions planned for Xbox (including Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, Silksong has kept fans on their toes with various teases, including a mysterious chocolate cake recipe that sparked speculation about a potential re-reveal in April 2025.
