DC Studios boss James Gunn has exciting news for fans: Peacemaker Season 2 is set to premiere on Max on August 21. In a recent tweet, Gunn shared his enthusiasm, calling the Season 2 premiere "one of my favorite things ever." Alongside this announcement, he released a brief snippet of new footage featuring John Cena as Peacemaker in action, complete with a signature smirk amidst a blazing fire. The teaser hints at an evolution for the character, with someone in the footage declaring Peacemaker to be "a superhero now."

Peacemaker Season 2 follows the release of Superman on July 11, marking the official start of Gunn's rebooted DC Universe (DCU). It will be the third entry in this new cinematic universe, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, some elements from the DCEU will carry over into the new DCU. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, having debuted in the DCEU with its first season and now transitioning into the new DCU with its second.

Gunn has previously stated that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics on what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return, with the same actors reprising their roles. This includes John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn has revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
