The Voodoo Doll offers a relatively favorable risk-reward ratio among Cursed Possessions in Phasmophobia. While game updates have adjusted its effectiveness, it remains a valuable asset.

Its primary function is to provoke the ghost into revealing evidence. This is achieved by sequentially inserting pins into the doll. It's particularly useful when dealing with elusive or unresponsive ghosts, prompting actions like EMF5 readings or UV fingerprint displays.

Ten pins can be inserted, each reducing player sanity by 5%. Inserting all pins depletes 50% sanity, significantly increasing the risk of ghost hunts.

However, the most significant risk lies in the heart pin. Pin insertion is random; hitting the heart pin reduces sanity by 10% and instantly triggers a Cursed Hunt. This results in a prolonged (20 seconds longer) ghost hunt in close proximity to the player.

Despite the risks, the potential for gathering crucial evidence makes the Voodoo Doll worthwhile, especially with adequate preparation.

What Are Cursed Objects (Possessions) in Phasmophobia?

Cursed Possessions (often called "Cursed Objects") are unique items randomly appearing on any Phasmophobia map, though frequency depends on difficulty and Challenge Mode participation.

Unlike standard equipment, which minimizes risk while providing ghost location and evidence, Cursed Objects offer manipulative shortcuts at a higher risk to the player character.

The risk varies between objects, leaving the decision to use them to the player(s). There's no penalty for not using them. Only one Cursed Possession spawns per contract (unless adjusted in Custom settings).

Seven Cursed Objects exist:

  • Haunted Mirror
  • Voodoo Doll
  • Music Box
  • Tarot Cards
  • Ouija Board
  • Monkey Paw
  • Summoning Circle
