by Eric May 12,2025

The highly anticipated Amazon TV adaptation of the iconic video game series, God of War, is already set for not one, but two seasons even before its premiere. This exciting news comes directly from the new showrunner, Ronald D. Moore, who stepped in following the departure of Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus.

In a recent interview with Katee Sackhoff, a fellow alum from the acclaimed series Battlestar Galactica, Moore shared insights into his current projects. "Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of, there's a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," Moore revealed. He further added, "So I'm literally in the writer's room, and working on that. That's my new thing."

Moore, while not identifying as a gamer, confessed to enjoying classic arcade games like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. He humorously shared his struggles with modern gaming controllers, saying, "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead."

For the God of War series, Moore has taken on multiple roles, including writer, executive producer, and showrunner. His impressive resume includes work on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the critically acclaimed 2000s reboot of Battlestar Galactica.

Despite the change in the creative team, Sony's Cory Barlog remains involved as an executive producer. The series will be based on the 2018 installment of God of War, though further details are yet to be finalized.

Amazon's swift renewals of other video game adaptations like the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, following their successful launches, suggest a promising future for the God of War series on the streaming platform.
