Ever since the grand reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, the gaming community has been abuzz with speculation, particularly about a tantalizing detail from the trailer: the innovative use of Joy-Cons. Fans were quick to notice their movement, which suggested a functionality akin to PC mice. Now, the speculation has been put to rest with official confirmation from Nintendo: the Joy-Cons can indeed operate in a groundbreaking "mouse mode." This feature allows players to glide the Joy-Cons across flat surfaces, using the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, much like a traditional mouse. What's more, gamers have the flexibility to use two Joy-Cons simultaneously in mouse mode, one in each hand, or mix it up with one in standard mode and the other in mouse mode. The possibilities are endless, truly making the game your oyster.

Nintendo showcased the versatility of the Joy-Con's mouse mode through an exciting demonstration in a sports game reminiscent of Rocket League, aptly named "Drag and Drive." This three-on-three basketball game features robot characters navigating in wheelchair-style vehicles. To master the game, players must employ two Joy-Con controllers in mouse mode, skillfully maneuvering their characters to score baskets.
The Joy-Con's mouse-like functionality sparked a flurry of theories following the initial reveal trailer, where the controllers were seen gliding in a manner suggestive of PC mice. In our quest for more information, we reached out to Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, and received an intriguing, albeit cryptic, response. This feature, along with the new C button, has fueled extensive discussions about the Nintendo Switch 2, countering any notions that the console was playing it "safe" and reaffirming Nintendo's penchant for innovation.
