Rumored May 2025 Free PS Plus Game Ties In With A Hollywood Movie Release

by Evelyn May 13,2025

It looks like one of the PlayStation Plus games for May 2025 has leaked. While Sony has not yet confirmed anything, rumors suggest that the teen slasher horror game Until Dawn will be available as a free download for PlayStation players next month. The leaked key art hints at the possibility of it being the Until Dawn Remastered version rather than the 2014 original, though this is not entirely clear. We'll keep you updated as soon as we have official confirmation.

PlayStation Plus is an online gaming service for PlayStation platforms that offers a variety of benefits, including free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer, and member-exclusive discounts. Additionally, it provides a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games for Extra and Premium members, while the monthly free games are accessible to all players, regardless of their subscription tier.

According to speculation from members of the PlayStation subreddit, as noted by PushSquare, this move could be a promotional strategy linked to the recent release of the Until Dawn movie. However, the movie did not meet expectations, earning a 5/10 from IGN, with our review stating, "Until Dawn is more disappointing than deadly, leaving all the promise of the horror game behind for a jumble of horror-movie re-creations." Similarly, the 2024 remaster of the game received the same score, described as an "overpriced and under-featured remake that seems less like a must-have bit of moonlit murder and something closer to daylight robbery" in IGN's review. In contrast, the original 2015 game by Supermassive earned a more favorable 7.5/10 from us.

It's also worth noting that 22 games are scheduled to be removed from the PlayStation Plus library next month, including titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of first-party games Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. This removal will mean that Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will no longer be available on modern consoles.
