Sony has announced the formation of a new PlayStation studio called teamLFG, which originated from Bungie, the developer behind Destiny and Marathon. The studio is currently working on an ambitious debut game that Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, is very excited about.
The name teamLFG stands for 'Looking For Group,' hinting at a focus on social gaming. Their first project is a team-based action game that draws inspiration from a diverse range of genres including fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." The game is set in a lighthearted, comedic world within a new, mythic, science-fantasy universe.

teamLFG's mission is to create games that foster friendship, community, and belonging. They aim to build immersive multiplayer worlds where players can enjoy countless hours of action-packed gameplay. The studio emphasizes the importance of community involvement, planning to incorporate player feedback through early access playtests and maintaining a flexible approach to game development even after launch.
“We want our players to feel excited when they log on to discover their teammates already hanging out online. We want our players to recognize familiar names and to make myths and memes out of each other. We want our players to love remembering that one time where they pulled off That Play that changed the whole story of the match. As we say on the team – dat’s da good stuff," teamLFG stated.
This incubation project was spun out of Bungie amid significant layoffs in 2023 and 2024, following Sony's acquisition. Bungie faced challenges with Destiny 2 not meeting financial targets, which led to layoffs and the integration of some staff into other parts of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Amid these changes, the incubation project that became teamLFG was announced.
Recent developments at Bungie include the full reveal of the extraction shooter Marathon and a confirmed roadmap for the future of Destiny 2. However, there are no plans for Destiny 3, and a Destiny spinoff project called Payback has been canceled.
