Nintendo has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on the Nintendo Switch 2 will indeed support cloud saves, alleviating previous concerns among fans. It was initially uncertain whether this enhanced version for the Switch 2 would include Nintendo's cloud save feature, as a disclaimer on the game's page had suggested otherwise.
Originally, the page for Tears of the Kingdom's Switch 2 edition included a notice stating: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature." This caused some worry among the gaming community.
However, Nintendo has since updated its website to clarify this matter. While the page for Donkey Kong Bananza has removed any reference to cloud saves, the revised disclaimer for Tears of the Kingdom now reads: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch."
This updated disclaimer should reassure Switch 2 owners. It indicates that players will be able to transfer their existing Switch 1 saves to the new Switch 2, but transferring Switch 2 saves back to the original system will not be possible, as noted by Eurogamer.
The same message has been added to the page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, suggesting a consistent approach to save data transfers across these titles.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders, priced at $449.99, have gone live and have been met with high demand, as expected. For more information, you can refer to IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
