Dead by Daylight Will Make Highly Requested Change to The Nightmare

Dead by Daylight's The Nightmare Receives a Major Rework

Dead by Daylight's The Nightmare (Freddy Krueger) is getting a significant overhaul in an upcoming patch, addressing long-standing concerns about his underpowered status. This rework aims to boost his competitiveness while staying true to his iconic horror persona.

The core change is the ability to seamlessly switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets, granting The Nightmare greater tactical flexibility. Dream Snares are enhanced, now moving at 12 m/s, traversing walls and stairs (but not ledges), and interacting differently with sleeping and awake Survivors. Sleeping Survivors are hindered for 4 seconds, while awake Survivors accumulate 30 seconds on their sleep meter.

Dream Pallets gain an explosive function, inflicting injury on sleeping Survivors and adding 60 seconds to the sleep timer of awake Survivors upon impact. The explosion has a 3-meter radius and a 1.5-second delay.

The Nightmare's teleportation abilities are also improved. He can now teleport to any generator (completed, blocked, or endgame) within the Dream World, and can even target Survivors actively healing. Teleporting near a healing Survivor (within 12 meters) reveals nearby Survivors via Killer Instinct and adds 15 seconds to their sleep meter. The teleport cooldown is reduced from 45 to 30 seconds, and cancellation is no longer possible. Healing Survivors in the Dream World are continuously revealed by Killer Instinct (with a 3-second lingering effect after stopping). Sleeping Survivors can now use any alarm clock to wake up, but each clock enters a 45-second cooldown afterward.

Key Changes Summarized:

  • Swappable Abilities: Freely switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets.
  • Enhanced Dream Snares: 12 m/s speed, wall and stair traversal, unique effects for sleeping and awake Survivors.
  • Explosive Dream Pallets: Triggers a damaging blood geyser, affecting sleeping and awake Survivors differently.
  • Improved Teleportation: Teleport to any generator or healing Survivor in the Dream World; reveals nearby Survivors upon teleporting.
  • Teleport Cooldown Reduction: Reduced from 45 to 30 seconds; cancellation removed.
  • Alarm Clock Changes: Any alarm clock can be used to wake up; 45-second cooldown after use.
  • Killer Instinct Enhancements: Healing Survivors are continuously revealed in the Dream World.

While the Nightmare's perks remain unchanged, the updated abilities and Add-On adjustments aim to significantly improve his overall gameplay and competitive viability. The changes are currently implemented in the Public Test Build (PTB), with a future release date yet to be announced.
