Elden Ring: Nightreign will omit the in-game messaging feature previously seen in FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision, citing the game's shorter play sessions. Nightreign's approximately forty-minute gameplay sessions leave insufficient time for players to effectively send or read messages.
Ishizaki stated, "With sessions lasting roughly forty minutes, there isn't enough time to send your own messages or read other people's messages, therefore we disabled the messaging feature."
This choice marks a departure from FromSoftware's tradition of incorporating message-based player interaction, a feature often praised for enhancing enjoyment and community engagement. However, the development team deemed the feature unsuitable for Nightreign's design.
To maintain the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features a separate narrative. It promises a novel adventure with distinct challenges and encounters, while preserving the atmospheric richness and complexity of the Elden Ring world.
